BACKGROUND When we are unaware of our true, timeless nature, we tend to identify with our minds. Our minds are naturally terrified by the idea of death. The thought that we will one day cease to exist is so frightening that our minds create countless strategies to avoid facing this undeniable fact of life. While some of these strategies might temporarily distract us from thoughts of death, they also blind us to the true essence of life. Over time, these energy-consuming strategies and the blindness they create become our most common states of mind. In these states, life becomes a hazy, stressful, and directionless search for the next experience that can ease our underlying anxiety. This is why, in our clearest moments, we often see society as a horde of zombies. Fortunately, this process is reversible. When we recognize our true nature, our identity softens, and we see undeniably that we exist beyond the limits of our mind and body. This recognition brings clarity and courage, allowing us to open our eyes and face all aspects of life, including those that scare our minds. With eyes wide open and the courage to fully feel and realize where we truly are, our character returns to a state of wakefulness, flow, and wonder—a state many of us remember from childhood and our most lucid moments. It is only from this effortless, natural, and yet rare state that we truly see life for what it really is.
